Statement of Faith

1. The Scriptures.

I believe that "all scripture is given by inspiration of God" as the authors "were moved by the Holy Spirit". I believe therefore that the Bible in its original manuscripts is without error and that it is therefore historically and scientifically true. As such it is the supreme authority for both life and conduct.

2. The Godhead.

I believe in the unity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit in the Godhead; that these three are one God, having precisely the same nature, attributes, and perfections and worthy of the same worship and honour.

3. Man.

I believe that man was originally created in the image of God, but that through Adam's sin he became dead in trespasses and sins and therefore subject to God's wrath and condemnation. As a result I believe that all are born into the world suffering from the resultant depravity of human nature, without divine life and essentially bad and in separation from God.

4. The Lord Jesus Christ.

I believe that, as provided and purposed by God and as pre-announced by the Old Testament prophets, the eternal Son of God came into this world that He might manifest God to men, fulfil prophecy, and become the Redeemer of a lost world. To this end He was born of a virgin, received a human body and a sinless human nature, and remained sinless throughout His life. He retained His absolute deity being at the same time God and man.

I believe that in His love for lost humanity He voluntarily gave His life as a sacrifice for sin, and took away the sin of the world by bearing the penalty which the righteousness of God demanded. His death was therefore substitutionary - the just for the unjust - and by His death He became the Saviour of the lost.

I believe that He rose from the dead in the same body, though glorified, in which He had lived and died, and that this Resurrection Body is the pattern of that body which will ultimately be given to every believer.

I believe that on departing from the earth He was accepted by His Father into the heavens where He remains at the Right Hand of His Father interceding for the saved, and assuring the final completion of His redemptive work. As such He is Head of the Church which is His Body.

5. Salvation only through Christ.

I believe that because of the universal depravity of man, no one can enter the Kingdom of God, and be free from the guilt, penalty and power of sin by his own life or works, but only through the substitutionary work of the Lord Jesus Christ. Only the shedding of His blood was sufficient to accomplish our redemption, and His saving grace is received by faith in Christ alone. No good resolutions, no sincere efforts, no submission to the rules and regulations of any Church can add in the very least degree to the value of the blood or to the merit of the finished work wrought for us by Him. Nor are other acts such as confession, baptism, praying, giving or faithful service to be added to believing as a condition for salvation. Once born again a believer is eternally secure and kept, not by his own works, but "by the power of God".

6. The Blessings of Salvation.

I believe that once an unregenerate person exercises faith in Christ, he passes immediately out of spiritual death into spiritual life, and from the old creation into the new. Being justified from all things, accepted before the Father as Christ His Son is accepted, loved as Christ is loved, the believer is linked to Him and one with Him forever. All believers are complete in Christ and blessed with all spiritual blessings.

7. The Work of the Holy Spirit.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Trinity, who dwells in every believer, and by Whose Work, the finished work of Christ is made effective in the lives of all believers and by whom they are united to Christ in one body. He is the source of all power and all acceptable worship, teaching and service, never leaving the Church, nor the weakest of believers but ever present to testify of Christ. He is at present restraining evil in the world, convicting the world of sin, righteousness and judgement, regenerating all who believe in Christ, indwelling them, anointing them and sealing them unto the day of redemption.

8. Sanctification.

I believe that sanctification which is being set apart for God is threefold:-

(a) It is already complete for every saved person because of His Position in Christ - being one with Christ the believer is set apart unto God in the same measure that Christ is.

(b) That there is a progressive sanctification which comes about in the daily life of the believer who "grows in grace" and is prepared to allow the Holy Spirit to work unhindered by yielding His life more fully to God every day.

(c) The eventual complete sanctification which will last for all eternity.

I believe that we are called with a holy calling to walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit and so to live in the power of the Holy Spirit that we will not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

9. The Church.

I believe that all who are united to the risen and ascended Son of God are members of the one, holy, universal church which is the body and bride of Christ. I believe that by the same Spirit all believers are baptized into that one body that is Christ's, whether Jews, or Gentiles, and being members one of another, are under solemn duty to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace, rising above all sectarian differences, and loving one another with a pure heart fervently.

10. The Ordinances.

I believe that water baptism and the Communion are expressly commanded by the Lord Jesus for all believers.

11. The Christian's Service.

I believe that divine, enabling gifts for service are bestowed by the Spirit upon all who are saved. While there is a diversity of gifts, each believer is energized by the same Spirit and each is called to his own divinely appointed service as the Spirit may will.

I also believe that today some men are especially called of God to fulfil specific functions e.g. evangelists, pastors, and teachers.

I believe that it is the duty of every believer to bear witness to all and to act as Ambassadors of Christ to a lost world.

I believe that, wholly apart from salvation benefits which are bestowed equally upon all who believe, rewards are promised according to the faithfulness of each believer in his service for his Lord, and that these rewards will be bestowed at the judgment seat of Christ after He comes to receive His Own to Himself.

12. The Second Coming of Christ.

I believe in the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ - that He will appear in person on the clouds of heaven, and with power and great glory.

13. The Eternal State.

I believe that at death the spirits and souls of those who have trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation pass immediately into His presence and there remain in conscious bliss until the resurrection of the glorified body when Christ comes for His own, whereupon soul and body reunited shall be associated with Him forever in glory; but the spirits and souls of the unbelieving remain after death conscious of condemnation and in misery until the final judgment when soul and body reunited shall be cast into the lake of fire to be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power.

Apart from the beliefs stated above which constitute a basic, essential fundamental faith, I also believe:-

A. That the Baptism with the Holy Spirit is usually a separate experience from, and subsequent to, conversion.

B. That the gifts of the Holy Spirit manifested to-day include the speaking of tongues, the interpretation of tongues, the gift of prophecy, the gifts of healing, miracles and faith.

C. That every believer is a priest and that all believers must therefore be free to minister whatever God may give them, and have opportunity to function as priests.

D. That the removal of the Church from the Earth and its translation into heaven will occur before a time of trouble called "The Tribulation" begins.

E. That at the return of Christ to the Earth, He will establish a Physical Kingdom of perfect environment which will last for 1000 years.

F. That in this future Kingdom God will complete His Promises to Israel by restoring her to her own land and by fulfilling the covenants He made with her.
