Title: Cheque Book of the Bank Of Faith
Author: C.H. Spurgeon
Publisher: Christian Heritage
Spurgeon is a well known Baptist pastor and preacher from the 19th century and this small book of daily readings is the best devotional book I have ever come across. In it, he provides a devotional reading for each day of the year. Each devotion starts with a passage of scripture which is followed by his superbly written insights and exortations.
My wife and I use it every day during our morning prayer and I recommend that you try it too. |

Title: The Seduction of Christianity
Authors: Dave Hunt & T.A..McMahon
Publisher: Harvest House
The Church has been under attack from the beginning through false teachings and practices being brought into it. The authors of this book provide lots of evidence of the latest attack which comes from the New Age which has infected the Church on a vast but subtle scale. This seduction of the church has been increasing over decades and comes in a number of guises such as sorcery. the occult and psychology. It may seem shocking to learn that sorcery and occult is now part of the Church but the authors explain how this has happened and what it looks like. The authors name those who have done it and many of them are famous modern day Christians.
This is a book that should be read by all Christians to warn them of this dangerous seduction and to enable them to identify what to look out for. |

Title: Authority
Author: D M Lloyd-Jones
Publisher: Banner of Truth
When I was at college a long time ago I was given an essay to write on the question of, ‘Which has the greater authority, the Church or the Scriptures?’ I came up with the wrong answer according to the dogma teacher who set the question and I got a severe telling off. However, with hindsight, I can now see that I did in fact reach the right conclusion; it was the Dogma teacher who was wrong. At the time I had not read this book, otherwise I might have been able to stand my ground better.
Understanding true authority is so important for the church and for us as individual Christians. Without it, we will not be effective in what we do, especially if we preach or teach. So what is true authority? Well, this little book has the answer and it is one of those books that every Christian should read, so that we can recognise it and act with it.

Title: A Cause Worth Living For
Author: David Hamilton
Publisher: Highland Books Limited
David Hamilton grew up in Northern Ireland during the troubles and was drawn into terrorism. He became a Loyalist and a man of violence and ended up in prison where he became a Christian. This book tells the story of how he became a terrorist and the harsh life he experienced in prison. He had a fearsome reputation as a man of violence until the day that God intervened, saved him and changed his life. David is a friend of mine and I can tell you that you could not meet a gentler, more loving and dedicated man of God if you tried. When you meet him it is hard to believe that he had such a violent past.
I recommend this book because it is a powerful testimony of the transforming power of Jesus in a man’s life. If He can transform a man like David from being a man of violence to a man of God He can transform anyone. There is no sinner that cannot be saved; there is nobody beyond redemption.

Title: The Full Life Study Bible
Editor: Donald C. Stamps
Publisher: Zondervan
There are a number of study bibles available but I think this is the best one by far. The study notes on each page and the special topic pages are excellent. It also comes with a Subject Index, a Themefinder Index, a bible reading plan, a Concordance and maps.
The author of the study notes is Donald C. Stamps who was a missionary in Brazil. He was clearly a man who was filled with the Holy Spirit and had a great understanding of the scriptures.
An updated version of the Full Life Study Bible is now available and it is called The Fire Bible. I only recommend the original version, not the updated one.

Title: Biblical Church
Author: Beresford Job
Publisher: Bethany Publishing
Apart from the Bible, this is the most important book I have ever read. To quote Beresford Job, "The Reformers regained the truth of salvation, the Pentecostals rediscovered the power and ministry of the Holy Spirit and the cry is now going up that we need to go full circle and put in place what may well be the last piece of the Reforming jigsaw puzzle: biblical church practice".
Most churches today bear virtually no resemblance to the Apostolic Church found in the New Testament and Beresford Job explains how this has come about and how wrong it is.
I recommend that every Christian should read this book and take action to correct the unbiblical church practices that we have today. Click on the following link in order to purchase the book: Biblical Church

Title: Sounds from Heaven
Author: Colin & Mary Peckham
Publisher: Christian Focus
This is probably the best book I've ever read. I bought the book at Stornoway on a business trip and read it in my room at the hotel. My response to the book was to fall on my knees in deep prayer, praise and joy. The book is about the 1948 Hebridean revival, the last great revival in Great Britain. It tells the story of the revival using lots of eye witness accounts. What it describes is truly awesome, a time when the church is at it's most powerful. Not only did the book teach me about what true revival is like it also showed me how to pray in power. Those involved in this revival testify over and over again that the key to revival is prayer.

Title: The Hiding Place
Author: Corrie Ten Boom
Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton
This is probably one of the most challenging books I’ve ever read because it shows what Christians should really be like. When I read it I felt that I fell short in so many ways. But don’t get the idea that Corrie Ten Boom was some kind of super-Christian. As you read about what she went through during the Second World War, you see her struggle with issues just like we all do. But what you see in her life is the power of faith and the grace of God at work in the darkest of places.
In this book you will see how an ordinary Dutch family risked their lives for others in Nazi occupied Holland and how they paid a terrible price for their kindness. Despite the terrible suffering Corrie and her sister endured in prison and in concentration camps, they always had their ‘Hiding Place’ to see them through it. And what is the ‘Hiding Place’? For the answer to that question you’ll need to read the book.

Title: From Witchcraft To Christ
Author: Doreen Irvine
Publisher: Kingsway Publications
This book was first published in 1973 and is mainly set in the 1960s. It tells the story of how Doreen progressed from prostitution to drugs to striptease to Satanism and finally to Witchcraft until she was eventually saved and was delivered out of her bebauched life. It is a compelling story that is easy to read.
This book proves that demonic possession is real and active today and that it is getting worse. At the point when she was saved, Doreen was possessed by forty seven demons and it took 7 months to cast all of them out. The book also demonstrates that Jesus is far more powerful than Satan and his demons. And finally, the book provides some very important principles that we should all understand. I recommand that all Christians read this book and learn from it. |

Title: The Gifts Of The Spirit
Author: Derek Prince
Publisher: Whitaker House
In 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 the apostle Paul gives us a list of 9 supernatural gifts of the Holy Spirit and that is what this book is all about. Derek Prince begins with a general introduction to the gifts, he then devotes a series of chapters to a careful explanation of what each gift is and finally he explains how these gifts should be exercised in the Church.
This is the best teaching I have ever come across on the subject. It is accurate, balanced and perfectly explained by a man with a vast experience of practising and witnessing the exercise of the gifts in the Church. As well as explaining what the gifts are and how they work, Derek Prince also calls upon his experience to show us what counterfeits look like and how not to us the gifts. I fully recommend this book. |

Title: The Money Secret
Author: Rob Parsons
Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton
If you are in debt this book will help you out, if you are financially secure it will help you be wise with your money, and if you feel that nobody could understand the sheer loneliness of financial pressure, then ‘The Money Secret’ will become your friend.
This is one of those books that everyone should read. It has lots of really useful advice on how to manage your financial affairs, particularly if you are having difficulties and it gives some interesting insights into all things financial.

Title: Listening To God
Author: Joyce Huggett
Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton
The bible makes it clear that God has always been communicating with his people. And in chapter 10 of John’s gospel, Jesus describes his followers as sheep who know and listen to his voice. So, how does God ‘talk’ to us and how do we listen?
Well the answers are in this book. The book describes a journey that Joyce went on (a prayer pilgrimage) in her quest to learn about how God speaks to us and how we listen. Some evangelicals might be surprised at what she discovered and learnt on this pilgrimage. But if you really want to grow closer to God through listening to him, then I would urge that you set aside any pre-conceptions that you have and persevere in reading this book from cover to cover.
God longs to speak to us but we need to learn how to hear what he has to say. Not only does he want to speak to us as a church but he also wants to speak to us as individuals in a personal way. Therefore, I urge all Christians to read this book. If you do, then you will grow richly and deeply in your relationship with God.

Title: Intentional
Author: Paul Williams
Publisher: 10Publishing
The words, “Evangelism That Takes People to Jesus” on the cover of this book is a big clue about what this small book is all about. The kind of evangelism that Paul Williams addresses is the kind that occurs in personal one to one situations; what you might call personal evangelism.
It is the responsibility of all Christians to take every opportunity to share the Gospel with others and for most of us this occurs in one to one conversations. However, this is probably the most daunting form of evangelism that most of us can experience. How do we overcome our nervousness, how do we deal with those difficult questions and how do we actually do it. Well, in this easy to read, short book, Paul Williams gives lots of great advice. So, if you want to understand how to engage in personal evangelism I would really recommend that you read this book.
